Easter Week
In
a little know addendum to the book of Genesis it was written...
On the
8th day the Lord looked down upon creation and said, "let there
be ice." It
was proclaimed that the men shall beat their swords into implements
to place
on their feet and move across the frozen water. They shall skate
as if
dancing upon the pond with much joy and gladness in their hearts--
Not to
mention a little clumsiness and awkwardness to boot. And they shall
take
down the branches from the trees and they shall use them to play
ice hockey.
And it shall be good.
Seems appropriate that the Penguins rollerhockey team would chose
Easter
week to resurrect their ice game. And so it was that Team Liberty
rose up
and took to the ice on Thursday night against the defending Melnick
League
Champions, "Raw Fish". Team Liberty is comprised of the
venerable Penguins
rollerhockey squad enhanced by the addition of Nick Goulette, Tim
Feehan,
Rob Hansen, Mike McCabe, "Skippy" Oliver and Paul Gilmartin.
Suffice it to say
the roster is full. When the Raw Fish looked over at the Liberty
bench surely they
wondered aloud as Custer did that fateful day, "where in the
heck did all these
Indians come from?? The Blue clad Libertarians jumped on the room
temperature
seafood with two quick goals to command the early lead. The third
line on the depth
chart accounted for all the Liberty scoring that evening as Jimmy
Golden, Rob Hansen,
Mike McCabe and Tapper knocked the rubber egg in the opposing basket.
Feehan
tucked a couple of helpers in his Easter Bonnet while Jimmy Golden
proved as
quick as a bunny, notching three assists on the evening to earn
the #1 star
honor.
Team Liberty's motto is to dispatch their own brand of justice on
the ice,
but this evening the officials did the regulating, parking several
Freedom
Fighter arses on the pine. Liberty penalties enabled the uncooked
Fish to
turn up the heat and climb off the hook. The contest seasawed back
and forth
before a rotund defenseman from the Fish went coast to coast and
baited
Faergie with a forehand before slipping the game winning backhand
into the
net. It was a good first outing for Team Liberty. A solid team effort
that showed
promise for the season to come.
