High Flying Finns are Grounded
Suomi,
the first place team in the Melnick division, ran into a fired up
Liberty squad on Thursday night. The Blue Man Group torched the
defense and
goaltending of the Finns 4 times on the evening and substitute Liberty
goaltender Matty Macias turned in a red hot performance in net holding
the
Northern Euros to one tally.
Number one star for Team Liberty was red bearded Geoff Oliver, who
pierced
the Finnish defense and tattooed the back of the net twice. Geoff
also
assisted on Eric Gorman's seeing eye missile from the point to pace
all
scorers with three points on the evening. The bearded wonder has
had an
extremely hot hand lately. In fact, he is being fitted with a special
pair
of oven mitts to replace his hockey gloves so as not to burn himself
on his
red-hot stick .
The nomally dormant scoring volcano known as Mount Letvinchuck erupted
for
not one-- but two flashy assists to garner the second star award.
Robin dug
a couple of pucks out of the corner and slipped some sexy passes
to his
mates in front of the net. Hard to imagine the words "sexy"
and "Robin"
mentioned in the same sentence... but hey... waddayagonnado. Jimmy
Golden
contributed a top shelf conversion on one of Robin's helpers to
finish
runner-up to Matty Macias for the third star. Generally speaking,
it took a
solid Team Liberty effort to outshoot the tenacious Finns 30-23,
after
Suomi fired off 12 attempts to the Blue Men's 5 in the first frame.
Dor-Theo Hamil delighted spectators and players alike with a stunning
third
period cartwheel. As a Finnish player slid through Dottie's feet
at the
point Dor-Theo went ass over teakettle and landed soundly on his
melon. A
truly remarkable gymnastic feat to slip a little figure skating
show into
the game. Even with the extreme degree of difficulty the Russian
judge
shortchanged Theo by only scoring the stunt 6.5. What a showman.
The
contest was marred by no less than 8 penalties as tempers rose while
Liberty pu;lled the Finns skirts up over their heads. Next time
these two
teams meet I will be sure and bring some fine cheddar and brie cheese
to
accompany the Finnish Whine.
